October 22, 2017 - From Mom

Hello my wonderful boy!!!

I have thought about you pretty much non stop this week!  I'm so anxious to hear how things are going in Brazil!  How big is the culture shock?  Are you able to communicate at all with your comp? What is he like?  Is he a good missionary?

Send me some pictures of your apartment and your area!  Erik and I were looking it up on Google maps tonight trying to see what the area actually looks like. He is having so much fun hearing about all the details and comparing experiences with his.  We had a get together at Brooke's house tonight to celebrate Ama's birthday.  It was a fun celebration but we sure missed you!

What are you eating?  Do people feed you or are you on your own?  Do you have grocery stores with good things in them?  What can you not find there that you wish you could find?  Give me the scoop on the food!

What is your schedule like?  Are you teaching some families/people?  How have the Brazillians treated you?

What do you think of your Mission President?  Did you meet with him? Does he speak English?

I have so many questions!  I hope you'll have time to write lots of info.  How much time do you have to write?  What time will you typically get online on pday?

I'm sorry most of my letter is questions.  I'm just so excited to hear about everything.  But just know we are doing great at home.  We are starting to get some fall weather.  By the end of this week, the highs will be in the 60s.  Definitely sweater weather.  I've got a house that I'm listing this week.  Its been soooo much work! They just had so much stuff to pack up so that we could show the house.  I'm hoping and praying for a quick buyer for them.  They are likely to go into foreclosure for non payment of their mortgage if we don't sell it quickly.  Dad and I went over on  Saturday and cleaned up their yard, planted flowers, etc.  I'm soooo sore!!!  Lots of heavy lifting and my arms weren't prepared:)

I've been thinking a lot lately about how the Lord blesses us and how Satan tries to discourage us.  I've been praying for more peace about missing you and worrying about you.  Your attitude has been so tremendous that you may not need this now, but it was helpful for me to consider how the spirit makes me feel and how I feel when Satan works on me.  If you ever feel discouraged, remember this:

The Lords voice:
Stills you, leads you, reassures you, enlightens you, encourages you, comforts you, calms you and gives you conviction and makes you feel love.

If the thoughts in your mind turn away from the positive, think about where the message is coming from.

Satan's voice:
rushes you, pushes you, frightens you, confuses you, discourages you, worries you, obsesses you and condemns you.

I can only imagine that many things on your mission could discourage you.  However, try to stay far from those thoughts.  Remember how much the Lord loves you and is counting on you to communicate that love to his children in Brazil.  He needs your goodness and your influence. He needs you to act out of love.

I miss you my son!  I love you so incredibly!  I'm so very proud of you and to be your mom.   Your name is mentioned several times daily in our home and we pray for you by name multiple times a day!  My love goes with you where ever you go!  Your whole family's love goes with you where ever you go!

I love you infinity + infinity and even more than that!

Good morning my sweet boy! How was your week? I’m hoping there were some baptisms and the people followed through on their commitments:) Did you love conference? One of my favorite things about it was how I knew we were sitting there doing the exact same thing at the same time! That was comforting to me. I absolutely loved it! If you didn’t get a chance to watch the women’s broadcast you should try. I will send you an Ensign conference edition when it gets here so you can read all the talks again and study them. I feel like I received many personal messages from the talks. So many of them focused on our ability to stay faithful and receive comfort during trials... not one minute of our suffering is wasted. It is all for our good and our growth. That was one of the messages that I took away and feel strengthened by.  I also felt a recommitment to strengthening my conversion. That also seemed to be a theme of conference. Are we living the gospel by going through the motions and check...

Hey buddy!    I’m glad I finally get a chance to sit down and write. Baby stuff has taken over my life but we are very excited to have Harper with us in the next few weeks. Excited for you to meet your new little cousin when you return. Sounds like you are doing really well! I know you’ve had minor struggles and home sickness along the way, but it’s good to see you pumped and positive. Sounds like you’re doing a great job!     Hey listen, I know everyone has chimed in on the girl situation and you’re probably tired of talking about it at this point, but I wanted to try to talk to you about it as well because I’ve had the unwelcome pleasure of going through 3 life changing heart breaks that I never thought I’d recover from so I can speak to you from experience and hopefully put some perspective on things.     I had been with Alicia for 5 years, we were in love but it was more than that. It was how the family loved her, how much I loved her family and ...
