Sam and Gray,
Yesterday Abby and I were talking about marriage and the type of man she wants to marry. We were having a good laugh at her past choices. Although they were good guys, your sister is a little bit of a rescuer. She likes to reach out to someone in need and try to "fix" them. Its a great quality actually to help others become better. My only concern with her is that she not "rescue" her husband. But that she choose someone amazing, faithful, strong, loving, generous, kind, fun and helps her to want to be the best person she can be. I think she has come a long way and has a better understanding of who she wants to end up with. Her comment to me, and the reason I am sharing this with you, was "I want to marry someone like Sam and Grayson."
Well you can imagine as a mom how sweet that statement was to me. But it has got me thanking my Heavenly Father for the amazing children I have been blessed with. I have thought a lot lately about people who have really big problems with their kids. It is heart breaking for a parent. I know that my children are not perfect LOL but what I love so much is their striving to be the extraordinary people the Lord designed them to be. I know you both not only have testimonies of the gospel but are converted as well. I know this because of they way you live your lives. You guys are smart and fun and loyal and kind and the kind of sons I am so proud of. I am in awe of both of you. Abby is right, she should marry someone like Sam and Gray.
When Alma was counseling his son Corianton who was living a sinful life, the said, "For behold have ye not observed the steadiness of thy brother, his faithfulness, and his diligence in keeping the commandments of God? Behold, has he not set a good example for thee? ...And I command you to take it upon you to counsel with your elder brothers in your undertakings; for behold, thou art in thy youth, and ye stand in need to be nourished by your brothers. Give heed to their counsel." (Alma 39: 1, 10)
I'm so grateful that I can trust Abby to follow the example of her brothers and that she recognizes that too.
My counsel to you is to remember that you are examples. Live your life just right with the Lord. Keep your covenants and make the Lord first in your life. If you have need of repentance, do it now.. don't delay and get back on track. Make the changes in your life you know the Lord wants you to make.
Sam, tomorrow is the 1 year anniversary since your knee surgery. I think of that very difficult time for you to come home without being able to complete your mission goals. However, you've made some real strides since you've been home. You are working hard and doing fantastic in school and you have remained true to the young man to changed into on your mission. STay strong and faithful. Find opportunities to serve and go to the temple often and regularly. The decisions you make now are building who you will be in the future. You do not magically change with age. You will see that your life is a culmination of the decisions and choices you have made. So think of the person you want to be and then make the choices that person would make now.
Gray, you are approaching your 6 month mark on your mission. YOu have had some tough struggles but you have handled them with incredible faith and determination. Your mission will begin to speed up so don't leave anything behind. Don't take this time for granted. Love those people. Find fun and joy in this adventure. These experiences will shape you forever. Any worries you have at home will work themselves out when you put the Lord first.
I love you, my boys. You two are incredible to me. I'm the luckiest and most proud mom. You are my treasures and I love you infinity plus infinity and even more than that!
Have an amazing week.
love,
Mom
