May 6, 2018 from Mom

Good morning my wonderful boy!  

I'm so CRAZY excited to talk to you face to face in less than one week!  It will be my greatest mother's day ever!  Have you determined a time and how we will do it?  Just tell us what works for you and we will make it work.

first, before I forget, you asked me about 1 Cor. 16:2.  This chapter starts out with Paul telling the saints in Corinth (just as he told them in Galatia) about collecting money and provisions for the members of the church in Jerusalem that were facing very difficult times, even famine.  In vs. 2 he is talking about on the first day of the week (Sunday) that they will collect donations  and "lay them in store" or gather them together and save them, for the other saints.  The Lord had "prospered" them and so they were to use their excess and donate it to others.  He tells them to donate "liberality" or generously.  Does that clear it up?

Second, I had a great birthday weekend.  Several friends took me to lunch on Saturday which was so fun (Sis Thrasher, Steed, Opfar, Leland, LLoyd and Memory).  Then of course we worked at the house.  This is a broken record!  And for the next 2 weeks, thats pretty much all we will be doing.  We are trying to have the house on the market in 2 weeks.  We have a lot to do!  Of course nothing goes as smoothly as you hope and takes much longer than you plan on!  But we are making progress.  Lots of workers are coming in this week to work on the master bath and the kitchen.  Its starting to look like a house again.  

On Thursday last week, Dad surprised me by taking me to see Les Mis which is one of my favorite plays.  It is the most beautiful story and really gospel related.  Its about a man (during the french revolution... some time in the 1800s) who is caught stealing bread to feed his nephew. He works as a slave in prison for 9 years for it and ends up escaping.  No one will help him get a job or provide food until a catholic priest takes him in.  The prisioner (jean val jean) repays the goodness of the priest by stealing all of the silver from the monestary.  When he is caught with the silver, the police bring him back to the priest and surprisingly the priest said that he had give ValJean all of the silver but he was glad he was caught because he forgot to take the silver candlesticks.  After the police leave, the priest tells ValJean that he has given him a fresh start and asks him to make something better of his life.  And in fact he does, he does a complete turn around and ends up caring for a dying woman's child and many others.  Its a beautiful story with the most wonderful music.  There is a song called "bring him home" where ValJean sings about the young man his "adoptive" daughter falls in love with.  He is off at war and ValJean is basically praying that he will be kept safe and brought home.  Dad and I both had a few tears over that one.  It made me think of my son, Elder G!

Then on Sunday night, we got to celebrate my birthday along with Bailey and Peyton over at the smiths.  Abby prepared a video for me with bithday wishes from everyone and put your video at the very end for a suprise!  I loved it sooooo much G!  Thank you for sending that to Abby.  It was such a great surprise.  It made me think that you should send us videos MUCH more often!  Will you do that???

What is your plan for pday today?  How are your investigators/new members doing?  Any progress on the family you told us about last week?  How about Gabriel?  

Here is my spiritual thought for the day.  We've been talking about a broken heart and a contrite spirit a lot in seminary this year.  This quote by elder Christofferson helps me to understand what that truly is... "As you seek the blessing of conversion, you can offer the lord the gift of your broken, or repentant, heart and your contrite, or obedient, spirit. In reality, it is the gift of yourself - what you are and what your are becoming." Its really about being obedient, repenting when we make mistakes, and truly becoming a different person through the power of the atonement of Jesus Christ.  I love the way he worded that.  

I love you my sweet boy!  Is there anything special you want for our skype next week?  We will keep things light and happy.  Are you going to try to talk to Sam too since he isn't with us?  You may want to set something up today.  I love you so very much my amazing son!  You are my treasure.

its ok mom. just sad and confused. but i know the lord has a plan. just dont understand why it had to happen this way.  she is dating someone i think. he kinda looks like me lol except he has huge ears. your right. its just time to turn a corner. no matter how hard that is. im gonna write her a letter today just telling her how i feel and be done with it. im being transferred. Good morning my sweet boy! How was your week? I’m hoping there were some baptisms and the people followed through on their commitments:) Did you love conference? One of my favorite things about it was how I knew we were sitting there doing the exact same thing at the same time! That was comforting to me. I absolutely loved it! If you didn’t get a chance to watch the women’s broadcast you should try. I will send you an Ensign conference edition when it gets here so you can read all the talks again and study them. I feel like I received many personal messages from the talks. So many of them focused on our ability to stay faithful and receive comfort during trials... not one minute of our suffering is wasted. It is all for our good and our growth. That was one of the messages that I took away and feel strengthened by.  I also felt a recommitment to strengthening my conversion. That also seemed to be a theme of conference. Are we living the gospel by going through the motions and check...
